GARRY LYNN BURKE

Garry Lynn Burke, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at his residence. He was 74.

 

Born on August 20, 1946, in Pineville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Garrett and Florence Collett Burke. Gary was the owner and operator of his company, Tumbleweed Transportation, of which he trucked an estimated five million miles over a period of forty-five plus years. He was the former owner of Burke’s Drywall before turning it over to his son. He also built and formerly owned Crockett Trail General Store. Garry was a part owner and member of Friends of Faith Church in Liberty. He enjoyed elk hunting out west with his friends every single year since 1969. Garry is the pivotal reason that many residents in Casey County enjoy elk hunting out west, to this day. He was an honest man that was always known for being true to his word. He had countless friends all over the United States which was a testament to the life he lived.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Missy Phelps Burke, who he wed on January 1, 1999; two daughters, Kelly (Matt) Hicks and Samantha (Chris) McQueary, both of Liberty; a son, Brandon Poff of Dunnville; a daughter-in-law, Glenna Burke; and six grandchildren, Nataushia, Cole, Shelby, Luke, Rody, and Skylar. Other survivors include a sister, Kathy Burke; a brother, Billy Burke; and his beloved dog and best friend, Polly.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Gary Burke, Jr.; a grandson, Riggin Hicks; and three brothers, Bobby Burke, Chester Burke, and David Burke.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 2, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Sherman Floyd officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Green River Valley Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. ARTHUR LYLE

Arthur Lyle, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was 54.

 

Born on November 4, 1965, in Roseburg, Oregon, he was a son of Joan Holm and the late Arthur Lyle. Arthur had been a logger, a crab fisher, and a cook at the Bread of Life Café. He enjoyed riding his scooter and watching movies.

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Esther (Glen) Martin of Liberty, Lila Stoner of Texas, and Hannah Rose of Liberty; two sons, Solomon Stoner of Scottsville and Silas (Savannah) Stoner of Ohio; five grandchildren; and a brother, Mike Lyle of Oregon.

 

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a sister.

 

Cremation rites were honored. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

SHEILA K COFFMAN

Sheila K. Coffman, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She was 46 years of age.

 

Born September 24, 1973, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Coffman and Lucille Logsdon Lanham. Sheila was a homemaker, caregiver, and a loving mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Liberty and enjoyed working with auction services.

 

Survivors include her fiancé, Tommy Lee of Liberty; a son, Mikey Coffman of Liberty; one brother, David S. (and P.J.) Logsdon of Tifton, Georgia; two step-sisters, Monica Ann Lanham and Diana Fay Lanham, both of Indiana; and two nieces, Shauna Saxon and Brenna Saxon.

 

Graveside services are 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Lanhamtown Cemetery with Brother Jimmy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Lanhamtown Cemetery.

SANDRA VAUGHN CASE

 

Sandra Jo (Vaughn) Case, 78, resident of South Bend, Indiana for that last 48 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday May 16, 2020 at her residence.

 

Sandra was born November 10,1941 in Indianapolis Indiana to the late Woodrow Clifton and Ethel Maxine Vaughn. On September 5, 1965 she married John E Case, he preceded her in death on March 24, 1999. 

 

Sandra proudly graduated with honors from Indiana University. She later became an Esthetician and she retired from A Cut Above beauty college in 2005 where she was an instructor. 


Surviving are her five children: daughter, Dawn Renee Case of South Bend, sons, Hayse Warrum of Indianapolis, Randy Lee (Ben) Warrum of Gulf Port, Florida, Joseph A Case of North Hollywood, CA, and Daniel (Lupe) Case of South Bend.  

Also surviving are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene (Tom) Drake of The Villages, Florida and Sharon (Willie) Golden also of The Villages. 

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Susan Holsapple Blankenbaker; and her brother, Douglas Vaughn. 

 

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Whited Cemetery in Liberty, Kentucky on October 1, 2020.

BOBBY E. LEE

 

Bobby Earl Lee, 40, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the Springview Hospital in Lebanon, KY. 

 

Born September 6, 1980 in Casey County, KY he was the son of the late Joe Daniel Lee and Lee Ann Burton Lee (Till Bartley) of Lebanon, KY who survives.

 

Bobby was of the Baptist faith and was free soul that loved spending time with his family.  He was an avid wrestling and Dukes of Hazard fan and enjoyed fishing.

 

In addition to his mother he is survived by six siblings Kelly Luttrell (Mike) of Windsor, KY, Priscilla Turner (Walt Livers) of Lebanon, Brian Lowery of Bradfordsville, KY, Sean Sommer, Kevin Sommer and Lee Ann Krapf all of Columbia; a niece Isabella Danielle Turner of Lebanon, KY and his step-mother Dorothy Sommer of Columbia.

 

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Bobby and Barbara Burton, paternal grandparents Earl and Maxine Lee, maternal step-grandparents Marie and Jake Lowery, a nephew Joseph Lee and a niece Joslynn Luttrell.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Salem Cemetery in Casey County. 

 

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00pm and continue on Saturday morning at the funeral home.

DAVID V. WETHINGTON

 

David Vincent Wethington, age 69, died Monday, September 14, 2020, at Casey County Hospital in Liberty.

 

Born May 23, 1951, in Taylor County, he was a son of the late Charles T. and Effie Hendrickson Wethington. Vincent will be remembered by his many friends and relatives for his acts of kindness and his willingness to help his friends and neighbors. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

 

Survivors include his sister, Alice Wethington Buckley of Frankfort; and three brothers, Charles T. Wethington, Jr. of Lexington, Ben Wethington of Georgetown, Indiana, and Paul Wethington of Elkhorn.

 

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Barbara Morefield; and a brother, Stephen Ray Wethington.

 

The funeral service will be held privately for family members only.

CAROLEE DAVIS

 

Carolee Davis, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020, in Bowling Green. She was 65 years of age.

 

Born June 6, 1955, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Calvert T. and Carol Wilson Davis. Carolee was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Liberty. She enjoyed watching Southland hour on television. Carolee enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers, and sewing. She also liked crafting, drawing, and painting. Carolee loved her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  

 

Survivors include a son, Dewayne Bebra of Liberty; a daughter, Stephanie (and Steven) Durham of Hustonville; three grandchildren, Hannah, Haley, and Jeremiah; and two sisters, Robin (and Jason) Sutherland and Debbie (and Ron) Gilbert, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

In addition to her parents, Carolee was preceded in death by her biological mother, Lucille Followell; and a son, Johnny Bebra.

DARIL GENE SALYERS

Daril Gene Salyers, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020, at TJ Health. He was 55.

 

Born on April 4, 1965, in Boyle County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Cecil and Edith Davis Salyers. Daril was a bus driver for Adair County School Systems. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of God. Daril loved the Lord and was a very dedicated Christian. He was highly involved in the church. He lived every day trying his best to talk about Jesus. Daril was the Sunday School teacher at church and was beginning to preach. He dearly cherished his grandsons and his children and loved spending time with his family. Daril was a farmer that was very much involved in the community. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite hobbies.

 

He is survived by his wife, Frances Wilson Salyers, who he wed on November 1, 1991; a son, Terry (Amber Chadwell) Rice of Columbia; a daughter, Natasha (Justin Pounders) Loy of Columbia; and three grandchildren, Hank Rice, Bowie Rice, and Ozzy Rice. Other survivors include two sisters, Diane Salyers and Vicky Byrd, both of Campbellsville; and three brothers, Jerome (Kimberly) Salyers, Timothy Salyers, and Ricky (Brenda) Salyers, all of Liberty.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Debra Salisbury; and a brother, David Salyers.

RUTH ELLEN "NANNY" COOPER

Ruth Ellen “Nanny” Cooper, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was 73.

 

Born on October 13, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Charles McFadden and June Parrish. Ruth was a sales associate and a homemaker. She and her late husband were members of Pathway Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, listening to music, and watching classic movies and westerns. Most of all, Ruth loved spending time with her family.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Joan (Mike) Schnatz and Melissa Cooper, both of Liberty; a son, James (Dayna) Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren, GariAnna, Sarah, Lena, Jonathan, James, and Sydney; and ten great-grandchildren, Cooper, Michael, Parker, Kinley, Adalynn, Chandler, Brice, Hollie, Ethan, and Heather. Other survivors include two sisters, Joanie (Joe) Pheiffer of Arizona and Beverly Parrish of Oklahoma.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Gary N. Cooper; a sister, Charlotte McFadden; and a brother, Earl McFadden.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Rod Keltner officiating.

DR. SANDRA LANHAM

 

Dr. Sandra L. Lanham age 60, of Somerset, Kentucky passed from this life Thursday, September 10, 2020 at her home. 

 

Sandra was born March 14, 1960 to the late Rev. Robert Lanham and Emma Carman Lanham in Jamestown, Tennessee. 

 

She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Russell Springs, KY, former owner and operator of Eye Professionals of Lake Cumberland and Vision Care of Monticello, KY, former Zeiss Business Development Manager and former lab consultant for Essilor of America. 

 

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Robert and Emma Lanham. 

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother, John Lanham (LeeAnn) of Burnside, niece, Kristen Greer (Bradley) of Eubank, nephew, Blakely Lanham of Burnside, great-nieces, Bristyl Greer, Lainey Greer, great-nephew, Kasen Greer, like a sister, Lula Jean Burton (Sam) of Bronston, special friends, Mekesha Becker (Brandon) of Burnside, Michele Coffey of Monticello, KY, Betty Tucker (Ron) of Somerset, Loretta Johnson of Somerset, like family, Allison Parrot (Joshua) of Somerset, Jack Parrott, Logan Burton (Alisha) of Somerset and her beloved dog “Jordy”.

Ray Baldock, formerly of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 85.

 

Born on February 1, 1935, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Johnnie Ray and Alma Yaden Baldock. Ray was a self-employed mechanic. He enjoyed auctioneering.

 

Ray is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Michael) Pike of Yosemite; a son, Anthony Baldock of Albany; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Dean Baldock; two sisters, Jewell Israel and Faye Hardison; and two brothers, J.C. Baldock and Gene Baldock.

MARSHALL EUGENE WETHINGTON

Marshall Eugene Wethington, age 75, formerly of Casey County, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at his home in Monticello, KY.

 

Born June 16, 1945, in Cincinnati, OH, he was a son of the late Ira O. and Matra Overstreet Wethington. Marshall was a US Army Veteran and retired from Tecumseh. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

 

Marshall married Janice L. Clark on November 21, 1984 and she precedes him in death. He is also predeceased by brothers, Charles and Mike Wethington and a sister, Barb Wirtjes.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Sandy (and husband, Jr) Criswell and Angela (and husband,

Tony) Roberts; son, Roger (and wife, Volena) Troxell; sister, Shirley (and husband, Bob) Welborn; sister-in-law, Jeri Wethington; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 6 nieces and nephews who loved hearing stories about their Uncle Marshall as he was quite the character.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Saturday, September 12, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Matthew New officiating. Military funeral honors will follow by the Casey County Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow at a later date in the Salem Cemetery.

Patricia “Tootsie” Lee age 85 of Hustonville, KY passed away on Saturday September 5th, 2020 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Center. She was born in Casey County, KY on April 2nd, 1935 a daughter of the late Johnny and Ethel Tapscott Cochran.

 

Tootsie was a housewife.

 

Survivors include: Her Spouse: Marvin Estill Lee, One Daughter: Elaine Ford and (Bennie Dunham) of Liberty, Two Sons: Wayne Lee and (Patty Buck) of Hustonville and Jeff and (Brenda) Lee of Liberty, One Son-in-law: Tip Brown of Hustonville, Eight Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, Two Great-Great Grandchildren and One Brother: Roger Cochran of Hustonville.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was Two Daughters: Beverly Brown and Deborah Luttrell, One Grandchild, Three Brothers: Frank, Iman and Bud Cochran and One Sister: Sylvia Lynn.

GEORGE LINCOLN COFFEY

George Lincoln Coffey, Sr. entered eternal life on Friday, September 4th, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 75 years of age.


He was born on December 19th, 1944 to Fordie and Zilphia Emerine Cordell Coffey in McCreary Co, Kentucky. George loved his family and his greatest joy was to be surrounded by them. His hobbies were making strangers into friends and serving those around him. He desired to be remembered as a man who loved Jesus and shared Him with anyone who would listen.


He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Brassfield Coffey, Jerry Lee Coffey, and Rick Coffey; 2 sisters, Connie Phillips and Donna Kay Coffey; his daughter, Donna Sue Coffey; and a granddaughter, Amber Hope Brown.


George is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Charlotte O'Hair Coffey, with whom he co-founded Freedom Christian Retreat; his children, Angie (John) Brown, George, Jr. (Becky) Coffey, and Heather (Doug) Rayburn, all of Liberty; sister, Alice (Gordon) Bell of Grant's Lick, KY; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.


There will be a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Freedom Christian Retreat.

HERLIN LEE MONDAY

Herlin Lee Monday, 84, of Liberty, KY, went to be with the Lord on September 3rd, 2020 at 11:04 P.M. at his residence, surrounded by his family. The son of Claude and Emily (Derringer) Monday He was born July 4th, 1936 in Casey County, and was always pleased that the nation stopped to celebrate his birthday with fireworks.

 

He was a farmer, Former owner of Monday’s Sundae Ice Cream Shop, and Monday’s Sign Sales and rental, He also retired from Tecumseh Products in Somerset, KY, having worked as a fork lift operator.

 

Herlin was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Faith, and became a born again Christian at 12 years of Age. He was a member and elder of the Highway 49 Holiness Church in Liberty.

 

Herlin is survived by his wife, Veldean Roy Monday whom he married on September 28th, 1957; his daughters, Teena and her husband Danny Payton of Windsor, Kentucky; Timsa and her husband Rick Naylor of Hustonville, and Herla Jill and her husband, Bobby Mauldin of Eubank.

 

Granddaughters, Cari and her husband, Shawn Grant, Lori and her husband Jeremy Meece, and Ashley and her husband Derek Martin. Grandsons, Herlin Joshua Naylor and his wife Tamera Naylor, Benjamin and his wife Jocelynn Naylor, and Austin Mauldin. Great-granddaughters, Beatrice Naylor, Isabella Eckborg and Amelia Grant. Great Grandsons, Tobias Naylor, Will Grant, Jackson and Mattox Meece. He also has, 4 Step-grandchildren, and 7 Step Great-grandchildren. Sisters in Law, Rebecca Wheeler, and Mildred Monday Anderson, Indiana, A brother-in-law, Ray Hatton, Berea, KY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thelbert, Glen, Clevie, Jesse, Hack and Verlin Dee; sisters, Beatrice Hatton, Edyth Monday and Irene Taylor.

 

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Saturday September 5th, 2020 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

SANDRA KAY GRANT

 

Sandra K. Grant, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Casey County Hospital. She was 68 years of age.

 

Born October 27, 1951, in Casey County, Kentucky, Sandra was a daughter of the late Oris Howard and Pernie Lou Holt Thomas. She was a former supervisor at Liberty Sportswear and loved her grandchildren dearly. Sandra was very involved in church throughout her life. She was raised in Thomas Ridge Christian Church, later attending Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and currently attending White Oak Union Church. Sandra played piano and sang at hundreds of weddings and funerals throughout her life.

 

Sandra is survived by her beloved husband, J.R. Grant, of Liberty, whom she wed July 11, 1980; three sons, Aerin (and Frannie) Grant, Andy (and Kellie) Grant, and Jeff (and Amy) Murphy, all of Liberty; a daughter, Laura (and Sondra) Turpin of Liberty; and fifteen grandchildren, Kayla, Josh, Elizabeth, Zander, Landon, Chloe, Alex, Eric, Aceah, Tyce, Jaxon, Trell, Andlie, Asher, and Azlie. Other survivors include four sisters, Josephine Mann of Jamestown, June Strong of Liberty, Glenda Thomas of Liberty, and Sue Welch of Indianapolis, Indiana.

 

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronnie Thomas, Merl Thomas, Roger Thomas, and Johnnie Thomas; and one sister, Linda Lou Thomas.

 

Funeral services are 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 6, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Brother David Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 6, 2020, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Please enter through the front doors (Campbellsville Street side) of the funeral home when you arrive for visitation. Social distancing guidelines must be followed by everyone in attendance. Facial coverings ARE required.

GARY WAYNE PORTER

 

Gary Wayne Porter, 57, of Moreland passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.  Born February 23, 1963, he was the son of the late Glenn Porter and the late Phyllis Porter Letner.

 

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vanessa Cochran Porter; daughter, Cassie (Denver) Scott of Danville; son, Kyle Porter of Burgin; three grandchildren, Tucker Scott, Landon Scott, and Jane Heidi Porter; brother, Paul (Tammy) Porter of Liberty; two sisters, Paula Lane of Nancy and Sandra Henninger of Liberty.  Gary is also survived by several beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

 

Most of his life, Gary was a general contractor and built houses for many families across central Kentucky.  His customers always closed the deal with a beautiful home and a lifelong friend.  He took pride in providing them with all of their desired “extras” because he loved to take care of others.  We find peace in knowing that he is now happily building mansions in heaven.    

 

Gary was a loyal member of Gum Lick Christian Church.  His greatest joy in life was being married to his best friend for over 38 years.  His greatest pride in life was his kids. 

 

Pall bearers will be Doug Ellis, Larry Stafford, Mike Lawhorn, Johnny Reed, Gary Mrzywka, and Jeff Lawhorn.  Honorary pall bearers are his nieces, nephews, cousins, and the men of Gum Lick Christian Church.

 

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland. 

 

Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 am at the funeral home by Bro. Steve Martin. 

 

Burial will be in Gum Lick Christian Church Cemetery.

STELLA MARTIN ALLEN

Stella Martin Allen age 88 of Indianapolis, IN passed away on Wednesday September 2nd, 2020 at Community South Hospital. She was born Octobe 12th, 1931 in Lincoln Co., KY a Daughter of the late Everett Martin and Mary Sharp.


Stella was the widow of Clarence Belden and Frank Allen.


Stella was a homemaker, mother, seamstress for Hand Manchester and Vogel, and a clerk in a general store. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church, she volunteered a lot of time to teaching Sunday School and Bible Studies.


Survivors include: Five Daughters: Judy and Randy Reitmeyer of Indianapolis, IN, Jill Brown of St. Petersburg, FL, Janet and Carl Brill of Carson City, CO, Joy and Joe Orberson of Gravel Switch, KY and Jeanine and Kirk Burkhart of Indianapolis, IN, Seven Grandchildren: Jennifer, Jamie, Jody, Joseph, Jason, Jonathon and Amanda, Eight Great Grandchildren: Javian, Jazmine, Jordan, T.J., Cameron, Tommy, Jaden and Jynel and Four Great Great Grandchildren: Aria, Nolan, Bradly and Jalee Kaye.


Preceding her in death besides her parents and spouses was Two Brothers: Bill Martin and Paul Martin and One Sister: Alice Brown.


Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 8th, 2020 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday September 8th, 2020 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. De Lane Pinkston officiating. Burial will be in the Hustonville Cemetery.

DONNIE DEAN POFF

Donnie Dean Poff age 67 of Liberty, KY passed away on Monday August 31st, 2020 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

 

He was born in Casey County, KY on October 9th, 1952 a son of the late Carl Eugene and Mary Lois Carter Poff.


Donnie was a self-employed Plumber and Handyman.


Survivors include: His Spouse: Kathie Kay Emerson Poff, One Daughter: Rebecca Hatter of Liberty, Jodie Hatter (Son) of Yosemite, Two Grandchildren: Payton and Corbin Hatter, Three Sisters: Cynthia Long and Andrea Norman both of Liberty and Sandra and (Greg) Dick of Russell Springs, KY and One Sister-in-law: Carolyn Poff of Columbia, KY.


Preceding him in death besides his parents was One Brother: Michael Poff.


Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. Wednesday September 2nd, 2020 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday September 3rd, 2020 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Troy Coffey officiating.

 

Burial will be in the South Fork Cemetery.
