BONNIE CUNDIFF COCHRAN

 

Bonnie Cundiff Cochran, 69, of Liberty, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.  She was a native of Casey County, born July 4, 1954 to the late Howard and Ethel Shell Cundiff. 

 

Bonnie was a caregiver to her daughter, Michelle.  She was a Baptist by faith and loved spending time with her family and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Connie Cundiff Shultz.

 

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Michelle Perry of Liberty; her brothers, Donald Cundiff and Larry Cundiff, both of Dunnville; special friends, Carl and Janie Chansler of Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be 12:00PM Saturday, May 18, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Bro. Hershel Lawhorn will officiate the services. 

 

Burial will be in South Fork Cemetery.

ANCIL HALE

 

Ancil Hale age 78, of Hustonville, KY, passed away on Monday May 13th, 2024, at the Jean Waddle Care Center. He was born September 15th, 1945, in Liberty, KY, a son of the late Cleo and Viola Mae Cochran Hale.

 

Ancil was the widower of Mary Etta Hale who passed away on May 9th, 2024.

 

Ancil was a farmer, self employed milk truck driver, was involved in the Gideons International and a Deacon at Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: one daughter: Annetta and (Jamie) Daniel of Hustonville, one son: Michael and (Michelle) Hale of Hustonville, two grandchildren: Amber and (Sam) Martin and Emily Hale and (Cole Pierce), two great grandchildren: Brantley and Avery Kate and his caregivers: Lisa Wethington, Bethany Baldock, Ashley Cole, Jessica Luttrell and Melissa Copley.

 

Preceding him in death besides his parents and spouse was one brother: Gerald Hale.

 

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Wednesday May 15th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel and after 11:00 A.M. Thursday May 16th, 2024, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

 

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday May 16th, 2024, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Brent Huggins officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.

RUFUS SHIRK

 

Rufus H. Shirk, 88, of Liberty, KY, formerly of East Earl, PA, passed away on May 13, 2024, at his residence. He was born in East Earl, PA, son of the late John W. and Mary (Huber) Shirk.

 

He was the husband of Rebecca (Brubacher) Shirk, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. He was a member of the Groffdale Conference Church. He was a retired farmer.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 8 sons: Allen (Donna) of Denver, PA, Rufus (Julia) of PennYan, NY, Sylvester (Ruthann) of Spencer, TN, John (Joy) of Science Hill, KY, Israel of NY, Sydney (Mary Jane) of NY, Melvin (Lucinda) of PennYan, NY, and James of Liberty, KY; 6 daughters, Catherine (Loren) Martin of Liberty, KY, Martha (Earl) Sauder of PennYan, NY, Rebecca of Liberty, KY, Eva (Franz) Schafer of Stevens, PA, Annamae (Mark) Hurst of Liberty, KY, Malinda (Willie) Miller of Shipshewana, IN; 67 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Phares (Arlene) Shirk of Narvon, PA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Shirk; brothers, Norman (Eva) Shirk, Enos (Erma) Shirk, and Harvey Shirk; and a few grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Old Order Weaverland Church in Blue Ball, PA, with Bishop Leon Zimmerman officiating.

 

Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery.

LAFON CRAVENS

 

Lafon “Fonz” Cravens, of Liberty, died after a very short illness on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital. He was 92.

 

Born October 12, 1931, in Casey County, KY, he was a son of the late Tom and Emma Henson Cravens. Fonz, as known by most, had many occupations throughout the years: Liberty police officer, EMT, USPS mail truck driver, state highway department, railroad, civil defense in Indianapolis, farmer, security guard at Ephraim McDowell Hospital, and assistant at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. He was a Baptist and US Navy veteran. Fonz was fiercely independent and lived life on his terms.  He continued to drive until about a week before his death and was on the lake fishing three weeks before. He lived by himself for 18 years after his wife’s death and always looked to the future with optimism. Fonz thought he would live for another decade at least and almost everyone else thought he would too. Along with fishing, he loved horses, and hanging out at The Village Restaurant and McKinney-Brown Funeral Home lounge. He was known by friends and family for his fish frys, his story telling, and sharing events from his life.

 

Survivors include his son, Tommy Cravens (and Janice Vance) of Hazard; daughter, Rebecca (and Donald) Reid of Brentwood, TN; sister, Eula Mae Durham of Casey County; grandchildren, Lindsey (and Michael) Burk, Whitney (and Jake) Hornberger, Kyle Vance, and Kameron (and Brooke) Vance; and great-grandchildren, Baylor Burk, Louisa Grace Burk, and Everett Hornberger.

 

Fonz was preceded in death by his parents;  wife, Mildred Martin Cravens, who passed away on March 30, 2006; and brothers, Leon and Clevo Cravens.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, May 17, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Martin officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Casey County Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

PATRICIA CLARKSON

 

Patricia Clarkson, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Casey County Hospital. She was 43.

 

Born on October 2, 1980, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of Ricky and Cindy Campbell Luttrell. Patricia was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ. Her kids, nieces, and nephews were her whole world and she loved them tremendously.

 

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughters, Kaytlin Clarkson and Jayden Clarkson, both of Liberty; her comforter, Johnny Mondie; brother, Terry (Andrea) Luttrell of Liberty; two sisters, Ashley (Zach) McWhorter of Danville and Rachel Luttrell of Moreland; maternal grandfather, Merle Campbell of Iowa; and nieces and nephews, Savannah, Adalyn, and Cohen.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Contown Cemetery.

CLEVIE RODGERS

 

Clevie E. Rodgers, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his home. Born on December 10, 1941, he was a son of Elmer “Ted” Rodgers and Lonnie Hardwick Rodgers. Clevie was a retired carpenter.

 

He was a member of Haven of Hope Pentecostal Church and loved his church.  He loved gardening, fishing, and woodworking.  Clevie loved his animals, especially his special dog, Benji.

 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Roy Rodgers of Liberty; his sons, Dwayne Rodgers of Liberty and C.J. Rodgers of Oklahoma; his daughters, Carla (Bruce) Poff of Liberty and Sandy (Larry) Cross of Dunnville; his step-son, Patrick Brockman of San Antonio, TX; his step-daughters, Joy Brockman of Liberty and Gay McLaughlin of Largo, FL; his brother, Kenneth (Dorothy) Rodgers of Liberty, Russell (Doris) Rodgers of Liberty, Jeff (Jo) Rodgers of Russell Springs and Larry (Cathy) Rodgers of Ohio; his sisters, Sue Ratliff of Liberty and Cathy Dries of Richmond; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, Clevie is preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Evans; his stepdaughter, Wanda Cochran; his grandson, David Jones; his siblings, Buell Rodgers, Gary Rodgers, Clead Rodgers, Luther Rodgers, Thelma Rodgers and Ella Rose Rodgers.

Mary Etta Hale age 77, of Hustonville, KY, passed away on Thursday May 9th, 2024, at her residence. She was born January 31st, 1947, in Casey Co., KY, a daughter of the late Ernest and Myrtle Snow Richards.

 

Mary Etta was a former employee of Cowden’s, a housewife and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

INEZ DAVIS

 

Inez J. Davis, of Dunnville, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Liberty Care Center. She was 92.

 

Born on February 21, 1932, in Tazewell, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Leonard Wilson and Hattie Edith Lynch Wilson. She was a former hairdresser. Inez was a member of Mt. Pleasant Community Church. She enjoyed being outdoors, mowing her yard, and attending Burton Ridge Auctions. She was a very hard worker.

 

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Christy) Davis, Richard (Marcella) Davis, and Keith (Pam) Davis; six grandchildren, Jake, Christopher, Amy, Andrea, Susan, and Phillip; and six great-grandchildren, Haylee, Laura, Maggie, Savannah, Ransom, and Natalie.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Davis, who passed away on May 8, 1986; three brothers, Harry Ledford Wilson, Shade Wilson, and Denver Wilson; and two sisters, Norma Gay Hieronymus and Joy N. Todd.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Treece officiating.

Cora Ellen Hayes, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Liberty Care and Rehab. She was 84.

 

Born on March 1, 1940, in Casey Co., KY, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Lela Allen Scott. Mrs. Hayes retired from Fruit of the Loom and Campbellsville Apparel. She was a member of the Creston Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and sewing.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Thurman) Bagby of Liberty; two grandchildren, Brian (Christina) Bagby and Kevin (Paul) Bagby; brothers, Thelbert Scott of Indiana and Gilbert (and Shirlene) Scott of Union; and sister, Louvenia Stafford of Ohio.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Warren O’Neal Hayes, who passed away on October 30, 2013; and a grandson, Thurman O’Neal Bagby.

DAVID CUNDIFF

 

David W. Cundiff, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Liberty Care Center. He was 79.

 

Born on September 1, 1944, in Danville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Kenneth Carson and Ethel Whitehouse Cundiff. David was retired after forty-seven years as a Loan Officer and Vice President of Casey County Bank. He was a member, deacon, elder, and Chairman of the Board at First Christian Church. In 2018, David was awarded the Liberty-Casey County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and in 2024, earned the Lifetime Achievement Award. He enjoyed volunteering with the chamber, the church, Casey County Toys for kids, Haley’s Closet, and the Liberty Island holiday lights. He was a former Liberty City Councilman. David was a US Navy veteran during the Vietnam era.

 

David is survived by a son, Neal (Georganna) Cundiff of Liberty; a daughter, Tammy (Joe) Gossage of Windsor; four grandchildren, William, Thomas, Tyler, and Sarah; three great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Leona Jenkins Dunham; bonus granddaughter, Emily Hatter; and a host of other family and friends also survive.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Cundiff, who passed away on December 28, 2023; and brother, Kenneth “Ken” Carson Cundiff, Jr.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 13, 2024, at First Christian Church with Bro. Greg Humpert and Bro. Bob Mallory officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Honor Guard.

SHIRLEY PATTON

 

Shirley Gay Patton, 81, of Liberty, KY, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Casey County Hospital.  She was a native of Casey County, born May 12, 1942 to the late Homer and Matrie Parton Watson. 

 

Shirley was a retired seamstress with the Liberty Sewing Factory.  She loved to sew and quilt, and loved to play bingo and the lottery.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Patton, who she wed April 30, 1960; her daughters, Mechelle Giles and Angela Patton Wethington.

 

Shirley is survived by her son, Bobby Patton, Jr. of Liberty; her brother, Johnny Ray Watson, Larry Gene Watson and Stanley Watson; her sisters, Diane Watson and Sandy Lowe; six grandchildren, Shannon, Randy Jr., Natasha, Tim, Robin, and Ethan; and 18 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, May 10, 2024, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.  Bro. Hershel Lawhorn will officiate the services.

 

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

CONNIE TODD

 

Connie L. Todd, age 72, of Nancy, KY, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Connie was born on June 12, 1951 in Somerset, KY to the late Tommy and Flonnie Todd.  She was a 1969 graduate of Nancy High School. Connie loved going to church and was a faithful member of Sardis Chapel.  She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

 

She is survived by two brothers, Marshall (Sheila) Todd of Nancy and T.W. (Jeannie) Todd of Nancy; one nephew, Thomas (Emily) Todd of Nancy; two nieces, Brittany (Robbie) Corley of Salvisa and Sarah (Ryan) Godbey of Nancy.

 

Connie was preceded in death by her loving parents who cared for her for sixty five years.

 

The Todd family would like to give a special thanks to all of the caregivers over the past few years who lovingly cared for Connie.

 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

NANCY ORLEAN DURHAM

 

Nancy Orlean Durham, 85, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 7th, 2024.  She was a former resident of Topeka, Kansas and Casey County, Kentucky.

 

She was born on May 18, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky to Henry McClure and Bessie (Hasty) McClure.  She married Marva Clayton Durham on August 2, 1956.  He preceded her in passing on May 14, 1998.  She later married John Patch on February 12, 2000.  He preceded her in passing on October 27, 2023.  She is survived by brother, Denneth “Red” McClure, Franklin, Indiana and sister, Sue (McClure) Maness, Salem, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in passing by her parents; husbands; brothers, Charles, Jim, Carl & Ronnie McClure and sisters, Ann James, Nora McClure and Glenna Jones. 

 

She was a Nurse’s Assistant.

 

Nancy enjoyed sewing, specifically quilts, collecting dolls and shopping, at JC Penny’s and Walmart.

She loved flying with Clayton, traveling with her sisters and riding the Harley with John.

 

Visitation for Family and Friends will be Thursday, May 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin, Indiana with a service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Pastor Fred Brown will officiate. 

 

Pastor Greg Powell will conduct a celebration of Nancy’s life on Friday, May 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Christian Church, 1974 N. Hwy. 837, Yosemite, Kentucky 42566. 

 

Burial will follow at Salyers Cemetery in Yosemite, Kentucky.

Elden Oscar Lloyd, of Liberty, formerly of Northwest, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Liberty Care and Rehab. He was 92.

 

Born on November 10, 1931, in Defiance County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles and Emma Wagner Lloyd. Elden was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church. He was a good mechanic. He was always willing to help others and enjoyed serving his church through acts of labor. Elden enjoyed listening to music, practical jokes, farming, and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He is survived by two sons, Timothy Elden Lloyd of Mexico and Terrence Lee (Jaralyn) Ford of Wauseon, Ohio; three daughters, Ellena (Mark) Hussey of Liberty, Mary Lou (Bob) Lemmon of Liberty, and Rebeccah (Paul) Burns of Lansing, Michigan; a daughter-in-law, Tabatha (Dewayne) Lloyd-Brewer of Napoleon, Ohio; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Darlene Thomas of Williams, Arizona; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Lloyd of Defiance, Ohio and Janice Carden of Montrose, Colorado.

 

In addition to his parents, Elden is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Louise Green Lloyd, who he wed on June 10, 1962; a son, Fred William Lloyd; four brothers, Virgil (Evelyn) Lloyd, Paul (Lottie) Lloyd, Charles (Marlene) Lloyd, Jr., and Murel Lloyd; and two sisters, Ruth (Kenneth) Armstrong and Sylvia Thorpe.

 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Christ the King Anglican Church with Father Bob Lemmon officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Christ the King Graveyard.

TIMOTHY PRATHER

 

Timothy “Tim” Prather, 57, of Liberty, KY passed away at his home on Friday, May 3, 2024.  He was born in Danville, KY on February 4, 1967, to the late Leonard Prather and Pearl White.

 

Tim was a laborer for several area manufacturing companies and worked as a security officer.  He was a cat lover, was a jack of all trades and above all, was an eclectic collector of many items. Tim loved Jesus and shared Jesus with everyone he met.  He was well liked by all in his community. 

 

Tim is survived by his cousins, Linda Lindsey (Adam) of Buffalo, KY, and Shanae Carpenter Rosdhal (Jason) of Liberty, KY and numerous cousins and extended family.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

 

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday.

MARK DUNHAM

 

Mark Dunham, age 71, of Yosemite, KY, passed away on Sunday May 5th, 2024, at the Casey County Hospital. He was born September 20th, 1952, in Stanford, KY, a son of Leona Jenkins Dunham of Kings Mountain, KY and the late Royal Preston Dunham.

 

Mark was a former mechanic for Dix River Stone, a farmer, and a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.

 

Survivors include: his spouse: Debra Williams Dunham, one son: Chad Eric Dunham of Indianapolis, IN, one daughter: Shauna Lee Dunham of Frankfort, Godson: Jacob Flannery (Sadie) of Yosemite, grandchild: Riverly Flannery, four brothers: Paul and (Dev) Dunham of Grayson, KY, Robert and (Sheila) Dunham of Kings Mountain, Timothy and (Rita) Dunham of Waynesburg, and Kevin Dunham of Yosemite, and two sisters: Bonita and (Robert) Lynn of Liberty and Jennifer Durham of Yosemite.

 

Preceding him in death besides his father was one sister: Beverly Cundiff.

 

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday May 8th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday May 8th, 2024, at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ronnie Haste and Rev. Donovan Smith officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Dunham Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Casey County Veterans Honor Guard.

 

RUSSELL MURPHY

 

Russell Gary Murphy, 74, of Liberty, KY, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.  He was born in Danville, KY on August 14, 1949, to the late Haskel Murphy, Sr. and Ruby Evelyn Bryant Murphy.

 

Gary was a retired rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service. For several years, he worked with his father at Murphy & Mills Farm Supply in Liberty. Gary was also a self-employed heavy equipment welder and mechanic at Murphy’s Repair Shop.  He was a veteran of the US Army. Gary was Baptized at First Baptist Church of Liberty and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

 

Gary was a storyteller and loved his grandsons.  He loved riding motorcycles and loved John Deere tractors.  Because of his lifetime trade, he loved to weld and enjoyed teaching others his crafts.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Shirley Ann Evans and Barbara Faye Lanham.

 

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Connie Davidson Murphy, whom he wed on July 24, 1976; his, daughter Becky Shepard and her husband, Bryan of Liberty; his grandsons, Hayden & Blayne Shepard; and his brother, Haskel Murphy, Jr. of Liberty.

 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M. on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Haste & Bro. Johnny Maupin officiating. 

 

Burial will follow in Murphy Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at McKinney-Brown funeral home.

 

PAMELA WATKINS

 

Pamela Elaine Watkins, age 65, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

 

Pamela was born on July 18, 1958 in Somerset, KY to the late William Boyd and Ellen Burton Boyd.  She attended Word Ablaze Church in Somerset.  Pamela enjoyed reading and taking care of people.  She also enjoyed camping, fishing and boating.  Pamela especially loved visiting family and friends.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Fisher of Somerset; three brothers, David (Rhonda) Boyd of Somerset, Russell (Lisa) Boyd of Science Hill and Mark (Missy) Boyd of Lexington; two sisters, Melinda (Steve) Whittle and Gina (Scott) Compton of Louisville; her best friend of many years, Marie Keeney; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Watkins, whom she married on July 4, 1983 in Somerset and he preceded her on February 20, 2022; her first husband, Bobby Fisher; one son, Michael Fisher; and one brother, Steve Boyd and his wife, Becky, and their son, Robert Boyd.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

 

Her funeral service will follow on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Reynolds and Bro. Steve Mullins officiating.  

 

Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
